Items to Budget

Please note: as of August 4, 2005 there will be a $25 handling fee applied to prepayment of groceries and/or gratuities

MEALS:

Your cook will handle grocery shopping and meal preparation. She will pre-purchase your first few meals plus pantry staples, then finish the week's shopping after meeting with you. At week's end, she will present receipts for all food and beverage and reconcile your account. A typical grocery budget is $45 per adult per day ~ $20 for children 10 and under. (A few villas have higher budgets for food.) This may vary up or down depending on market prices and menus. If you wish to go to the various markets with her, you are welcome. You may also accompany your cook to set up a credit card charge at the grocery store and at the end of your stay, return to close your account. Otherwise, simply review with her your tastes and distastes and she'll handle it all while you stay at the villa and relax.
[Note: If you prefer to prepay for your groceries, we can handle this for you. However, we must receive your prepaid grocery money no later than 60 days prior to travel and a $25 handling fee will apply.] As your cook will need to take a taxi to purchase groceries, her fare of $60 will also be added to your bill unless you provide transportation for her.

The following villas have slightly higher grocery estimates ($50 per adult/daily; $20 per child):
Amanoka on Discovery Bay, Bumper's Nest at Tryall, Coo Yah, Destiny ($55), Eureka, Frankfort on the Beach, Greatview ($50-$60), Rio Chico on the Beach ($50-$190), Silent Waters ($80) & Sundown on Discovery Bay

Indulge Yourself price list for alcohol, cigars and miscellaneous items. You may order direct or just peruse to see costs before you go. Prices offered are a guideline and subject to change.

STAFF GRATUITIES:

Recommended staff gratuity at the end of your stay is 10% of the villa rental in High Season, 15% in Low Season, divided among your staff members in accordance with the Gratuity Guideline you'll find in your Welcome Book at the villa. Plan to pay your grocery and gratuity monies in cash: US dollars or Jamaican dollars.
(Note: You can prepay for groceries and/or staff gratuities through us if you wish so you do not have to deal with so much cash during your vacation. Remember these monies are due in our office no later than 60 days before travel and a $25 handling fee will apply.)

Please do not forget your driver! Standard tip is 15% of your transportation contracted fee.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION:

Excellent private drivers (part-time or full-time) with 10 to 12-passenger or 18-passenger air-conditioned vans. Please note, your driver also doubles as your private tour guide and is an invaluable source of information on things to do, see and where to shop. Standard tip is 15% of your transportation contracted fee paid direct to your driver on your last day. See Transportation for options and rates.
